Admission information

Description

This Lab Course offers a hands-on introduction to the simulation, optimisation and physical properties of Optical Communication Systems using a commercially available Photonic System design software (Optiwave Photonic Design Tools). In the first lab sessions, the basic components of optical transmitters and receivers are described and analyzed in simulations. The sessions that follow treat the linear and nonlinear effects that occur in transmission over optical fiber and the corresponding consequences for transmission quality. In the concluding sessions, the optimization of optical communication systems is covered as well as fiber amplifiers and transmission over multimode-fiber. Note : Attendance in first class is compulsary, otherwise the place would be forwarded to the next in waiting list.

Prerequisites

The "Optical Communication Systems" Course should be taken in parallel or before this lab.

Teaching and learning methods

Lab instructions and course language are both english.
